The mother grave of August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben
There under the shady linden trees,
Where fresh flowers bloom
Rest a good mother
From her life's troubles.
She doesn't see her children
She has no idea of our pain;
her eyes are closed
And her heart remains calm.
With each spring will be
The linden trees are green again
And at the burial mound
The flowers are blooming again.
Then look out the linden trees and flowers
happily heavenward,
But our gaze bends down
To the grave deep the pain.
